Breaker Definitions E - T - A Circuit Breakers Thermal Magnetic Circuit Breaker A breaker is a device deigned to isolate a circuit during an overcurrent event without using a fusible element. A breaker is a resettable device that protects against overload and short circuit events. A breaker prevents fire, injury, and loss of property by protecting the wire of a circuit. A breaker does not protect property or personnel directly.
